Ukul-Eigthies by L’UKE – 80′s hits, clear like glass

Life is full of surprises! When I looked into my letterbox today I found my promotion CD from L’UKE’s new album Ukul-Eighties. Nice! My blog is not even running a single day, and already the first samples arrive –  great timing! :-)

The CD case is nicely made (and really flat!). Here a few impressions (together with a sopranino by Hans Thüring, which I was playing right at this moment):

So the CD actually looks pretty nice aside small ukuleles. I also liked the little Brüko logo on the back side:

The song selection is felicitous – all those cool 80s hits, which everybody knows without even knowing it – played like music should be played: With the ukulele!

Karin Reilly (singing) and Daniel Adler (lead ukulele) are playing the music on a high level and crystal clear. It’s amazing how effective music is in so minimalistic interpretations. The songs are literally reduced to their essence. Most time only ukulele and singing can be heard – additional instruments (like percussion or bass) are used very sparingly.

The sound quality is excellent, and this can nearly be seen as a point of critique: You can hear that it’s a studio production. On the other hand, the clear and analytic style of L’UKE has a charm of it’s own.  The pure voice of Karin is a perfect match. This is relaxing music which you can listen for many hours without fatigue – there’s nothing obtrusive or tedious in it, the music is clear like glass and directly enters the subconscious. This is quite a bit hypnotic. Unfortunately the fun ends a bit too soon: The playing time is less than 32 minutes.

The CD will be available from the 31th of august. Here’s the announcement by artfull soundproductions, where you can listen three complete tracks:

My personal favorites are Take on me and Milkyway Lovesong. In any case I definitely haven’t listened this CD for the last time, so thanks again to L’UKE! So I can definitely recommend this CD!
